Trees not Tees

We are really pleased to have joined up with Trees not tees and now offer ALL of our entrants the option of purchasing a tree when entering ANY of our races (whether there is an option of purchasing an event T-shirt for that race or not).

We are also really pleased to have been the first organiser to offer the option of MULTIPLE tree purchases with our race entries - so you can choose however many you’d like to have planted; more trees = more good!

We think Trees not tees is a great idea. There are loads of T-shirts given out at events that aren’t necessarily even wanted; so they don’t get worn and more often than not end up as rubbish and landfill. The environmental cost of making a T-shirt is huge. It takes the same amount of water that a person drinks in 2.5 years to make a single cotton T-shirt, plus over 2kg of eCO2. If it's never even worn, all of those precious resources were spent for nothing.

To try to minimise any over-production of our T shirts we had already introduced any of our standard event Tees as being optional, with a small fee to try to ensure they were only selected by those that did really want to have one.

Don’t get us wrong; we love coming up with T-shirt designs, and love seeing people wearing them and getting them as a great memento of the race - but of course not everyone wants a T-shirt so we didn’t want to be giving out T’s that weren’t wanted, not going to be worn or thrown away even!

Trees not tees gives our participants the option of planting a tree for the cost of a T-shirt! The environmental benefit of planting a tree is huge. It helps the fight against climate change by taking carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere, it provides a home for a diverse range of species, and it gives us clean air to breath. Win, win & win.

Trees not tees own the land they are planting on and will send you a certificate of planting and a photo of the planted tree with the geo-location of it on what3words.

Each tree being planted now is vital as in time they will be sequestering a lot of CO2 from the atmosphere. They don't start having a full environmental impact until they're around 8-10 years old but Trees not tees own the land so this ensures they'll be there for years to come, so each tree will have maximal impact.
