What  -   The Hurtwood 50 starts from the lovely town of Dorking, and follows the Greensand Way into the forested Surrey Hills, a famous Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  This race route is a ‘lollipop’ - essentially an out and back, with a 5 mile loop off the Greensand Way before starting the return journey.

The race takes you up and over Leith Hill, Holmbury Hill and Pitch Hill on a well marked, easy to follow trail through the woodlands, ridgelines and valleys of this area that is collectively known as The Hurtwood.  The loop at the western end of these hills takes you off the Greensand Way for a short time before rejoining to make your way back over the 3 hills and to the Finish.   Race route map HERE

Cut Off - The race overall cut off is 7.30pm, giving circa 10 hours to complete. This makes it suitable for fast walkers and first time Ultra runners.  (darkness usually comes around 4.45pm, meaning the last 3 hours will be by headtorch if taking the full 10 hrs - the signs are reflective...) See here for our Rolling Start & cut off info

T-shirts… & Trees - We have followed suit with many other events and are offering T shirts as an extra that you can purchase online at time of entry or by editing your entry at a later date. These are a nominal charge of £12. We like participants to have a T shirt to commemorate the event BUT by setting this nominal charge we hope to minimise any wasted T shirts - either by ourselves having too many printed as we do not know the exact numbers until very near the race OR by some participants not actually wanting one in the first place and them not being worn or discarded. We are also now partnered with Trees not tees so you are able to choose to plant a tree for £5 alongside your race entry! We have more information about this on one of our Environment pages. Deadline for T shirt orders is 10pm on the 20th November - after this they cannot be added to your race entry but there MAY be some stock available to purchase at the race!

Charity - Friends of the Hurtwood maintain some of land the route passes through, if you would like to raise money for them they would be most grateful.  See the Friends of the Hurtwood website.

Entry closes at 1pm Friday 5th December or when capacity is reached.

12 midday on 23rd November is the deferral deadline - you need to get in touch and let us know by this time as we cannot accept deferral requests after this. The onus is on the participant to notify the organisers of any deferral requests - no reminders are sent out.

Minimum age 18 years.  Dogs may not accompany you on this race.

ONLINE ENTRIES ONLY - NO ENTRIES ON THE DAY

By entering you agree to our privacy and terms and conditions.

Freedom Racing events largely take place off road, and can be on rough, rocky, muddy surfaces in potentially unforgiving outdoor locations and therefore have inherent risks associated with them. It is your responsibility to ensure you are fit and healthy to take part in them and aware of the nature of the event & to take due care at any roads that the route crosses or joins in the event.
